Australian politics is weird at the moment, and getting weirder with every day. And every new gaffe by Abbott.

It’s like living in a different world, or a different planet, as every day we find out about something Abbott said or did that makes no fucking sense.

It was bad enough when he mentioned women doing ironing, in an somewhat insulting context. Then he said it again!

It was bad enough when he brought back Australian knighthoods.

Then he goes and awards a knighthood to Prince Philip as part of the Australia Day Honours.

It’s one of those typically weird Abbott things that’s just hard to get your head around.

What’s the thinking process there? There’s over 23 million people in Australia, and Tony Abbott thinks none of them did anything worthy of honouring ahead of British royalty? That either represents a profound lack of imagination, or he’s seriously selling short the country he’s meant to be leading.

Then there’s the slimy feeling of the whole thing, for is there anything more odious than privileged old white men giving trumped up awards to each other?
